The F10 sixth-gen BMW 5 Series launched with three engines as a 2011 model. The base engine was the 528i with the naturally aspirated 3.0-liter N52 inline-six with 240 hp and 230 lb-ft of torque
No plug-in hybrid F10 5 Series was ever built. The diesels are much easier to understand. They ran 518d, 520d, 525d, 530d and then 535d. Most of these were four-cylinder units, the 525d originally launching with a 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine with 204hp, but later replaced (in 2012) by a 2.0-litre four with 218hp.
Engine The 525d and 530d both share the same 3.0L N57 straight-6 diesel engine. Though the block is identical, minor differences and tuning allow for the power on the 530d to be bumped up to 245 BHP @ 4000 RPM and torque to 540 Nm @1750-3000 RPM. In terms of performance…let's get one thing out of the way.
I actually own a F10 520d with the 8 speed sports transmission and a tesdrove a 525d with the same transmission. After 3.500km I can assure you, you don't need the 525 for the extra power. Off course the 525 is a bit faster (but not that much). Actually, when you drive the 520d, you would say that it is a 6 cylinder.
The engine also produces an adequate amount of power when driven with a light foot. But, many BMW M5 drivers reported that there were slight problems with the engine. For instance, the wastegate actuator linkage pin was corroded. It intermittently led to a sudden loss of power in the engine, forcing the car to enter a fail-safe/limp mode.

Was this on an N57 engine? Just to report back on mine, so far so good. Changes are not 100% but in the last few days the idle is stable fter start up. I strongly suspect though that its far from over and would point towards injector issues or EGR or intake seals. Will report back when I'll give it to BMW for a few days (after the holidays).
